I have heard about the 19 years old guy becoming a billionaire, the owner of Facebook and most importantly, the part of the story no one ever forgets to mention, the very interesting part; HE DROPPED OUT OF SCHOOL!  I'm not sure the motive behind this dropping out of school emphasis, Whether it's to discourage people from going to school or to encourage you to know you don't need school to become rich?! Whatever the motive is, it hasn't really been my concern because "nobody is about to convince me to not go to school.." Firstly, I have the privilege of having my parents sponsor my education, so what's the excuse? besides, my educated parents didn't really leave me with no choice lol..
But I have always wanted to know why? why Mark Zukerberg, Bill Gates, Steve Jobs and the likes of these billionaires all dropped out of college (equivalent to university in Nigeria)?! That's what i would like to know! Why they did?!
If only I have the opportunity to meet them for just a second so I could ask my mind bothering question?
I'm not sure how i would sound but probably like "excuse me Sir, why did you drop out of college?" and I would hope they gave me a honest answer!

This question had been on my mind before i gained admission into university to study civil engineering in one of the country's Federal University and while i studied. But i wasn't surprised i didn't get an answer, until my Final year! It was like a flash, like a revelation, it hit me. I now know why Zukerberg dropped out of school.. i would ask you to guess but i know you already did, So i'm just going to save myself the stress and lay it all out.. He was already educated! Yes. You heard me. He dropped out because he was already educated!

Some might argue from their guesses he dropped out because he had something else to work on or he dropped out because school was taking most of his time, or he dropped out of college because he needed to focus on his project (Facebook) or he dropped out of college because he believed so much in his dream(Facebook) which later paid of...  All these are pointers to the fact of the EDUCATION he has!
Education is different from schooling!

Permit me to take you on an educational ride with me, unlike what comes to our mind when we hear the word 'school', this is a cruise you will enjoy!
What's EDUCATION ? What's school? What's schooling?
Before you boo of with the who-doesn't-know-this thought, take a chill pill and let me school you.. loll..

According to Wikipedia, Education is the process of facilitating learning, or the acquisition of knowledge, skills, values, beliefs, and habits while school is an institution designed to provide learning spaces and learning environments for the teaching of students (or "pupils") under the direction of teachers.
Google bluntly defines schooling as education received at school and defines school as an institution for educating children.

With these definitions you will agree with me the purpose of EDUCATION is not to write exams,
Education isn't your certificate!
Your certificate is a proof you are schooled!
The knowledge you acquire in school and utilise both in school and outside school is a proof you are educated!
With this my hypothesis or theory or whatsoever tag you would want to call it, would it be safe to say you can be educated without going to school ?
Well I wouldn't totally scrap the idea of school, learning could be both formal (knowledge acquired through school settings and teachers) or informal (knowledge acquired outside school, external knowledge sort for or acquired personally.. e.g surfing the internet; Google, society...).
So what's the point of all this?
Zukerberg went to school, but he knew when to leave.. know what you are doing!

It's quite sad, in my part of the world if you asked higher institution students why they are schooling, the most reply you would get is TO MAKE MONEY, how are they going to achieve that? Some don't know but i'm guessing they have to finish school first! Now don't get me wrong, some EDUCATED folks know what they want, and they know finishing school would help them achieve it.. but the ones schooling rarely know what they want and they just want to finish school so they could think of what next.. meanwhile the main purpose of school (the real education) is to help you know what next while in school!
Now there's no particular time or level you have to figure this out, in your first year, 2nd, 3rd or final year.. just figure it out! Be Educated! But the earlier the better!
Zukerberg had enough knowledge to run through with Facebook while in college, he dropped out because by his level of EDUCATION he knew his most precious asset, TIME, is been taken by schooling!

It would be safe to say mark Zukerberg, Bill Gates and the likes of these billionaires have advised going to school(to be formally educated!), You should also know they later got honorary degree from the university they dropped out!
This post is not to discourage going to college(personally i have a bachelor's degree in engineering although i was tempted to also drop out in my final semester because of my education but i couldn't, the reason for me finishing is a topic for another day, but i'll tell you aside the fear of giving my parents hypertension, lol. i figured i'm almost done besides engineering title is cool), this post is to encourage EDUCATION!!

There's so much to say about education and to think I could summarize it all up in this short post would be a great mistake, but I hope you have been enlightened at least about schooling and if you are still not really cleared.. let me give this final analogy..
